This year the meeting will be held at the University of Technology Eindhoven in recognition of the strength of the Dutch astrochemistry community with the particular aim of exploring the connections between interstellar physics and chemistry and terrestrial plasma physics and chemistry.
Agenda
The agenda for the forthcoming APChem meeting will focus on new data becoming available from new astronomical facilities and new insights on mechanisms of molecule formation in the gas phase and at surfaces. Advanced modeling and laboratory experiments to support understanding of processes under astronomical conditions are also important items for the meeting.
The meeting will be hosted by the Plasma and Materials Processing research group in the Department of Applied Physics. The group works in the area of plasma physics and chemistry with particular interests in deposition processes, surface modification and molecule synthesis. Research topics under study include several that are of interest to astrochemists – the role of surface chemistry, non-equilibrium chemistry, the importance of charged particle-induced reactions in the gas and solid state, PAH and cluster formation, etc.
The meeting will explore similarities and differences between these two disciplines and identify areas of mutual interest and possible collaborations.
In addition to the formal scientific presentations, it will be possible to visit the plasma laboratories in Eindhoven and to hold discussions with the local plasma physicists.
Annual Meeting
The Annual General Meeting of the Astrophysical Chemistry Group will be held on Friday January 7 during the meeting.
Early registration and submission of abstract is appreciated by the organization. In particular, we wish to encourage attendance by the plasma community and will seek to balance the detailed program to reflect the attendance at the meeting.
Dates
The meeting will from Wednesday Jan 5 at 13.30 hr – 17:30, Thursday Jan 6 from 9.00 – 17:30, Friday Jan 7 from 9.00 – 16:00

Travel
Direct flights from the UK to Eindhoven are possible from London Stansted and City Airports or to Amsterdam (Schiphol) or Rotterdam and onward by good rail connections. Alternatively the Eurostar can be used; in that case early booking will make much reduced prices possible. Links: Ryan air, Easy jet, KLM, BA, Eurostar, City jet (VLM). Some offer combined hotel and flight combinations.
Cost of registration
The cost of registration is 90 € for members of the Astrophysical Chemistry group and 100 € for non-members. A reduced fee of 45 € and 55 € applies for PhD students and postdocs who are members/ non members of the ApChem Group. The fee includes dinner (and conference dinner), lunches, coffee and tea during the meeting.
Bursaries
A limited number of bursaries are available to assist with travel, registration and accommodation costs (to max 100 €) for PhD students and postdocs who are members of the ApChem Group at the time of the meeting and plan to have a poster or oral presentation. These bursaries are awarded on a first come, first served basis and are awarded to PhD’s first and postdocs second.
